Senior Strategic Advisor, Comcast Corporation
Joe Waz serves as Senior Strategic Advisor to Comcast Corporation, and resides in Los Angeles, California, and Washington, D.C. He retired from Comcast in 2011, having served as senior vice president, external affairs and public policy counsel at the company's Philadelphia headquarters, and returned to the company in an advisory capacity in 2013. He previously served as the President of Altura West, LLC, a strategy and public policy consultancy for the communications, media, and Internet industries, based in Los Angeles, CA. He was also a senior fellow at the Silicon Flatirons Center at the University of Colorado School of Law. Joe was founding president of the Comcast Foundation and executive director of the Comcast Political Action Committees. Joe served two terms as board chair of Settlement Music School, America's oldest and largest community school of the arts; was founding chair of the Broadband Internet Technology Advisory Group; is the founder of the Ann Stookey Fund for New Music; and served as president of the Federal Communications Bar Foundation. His current or past boards include the Internet Education Foundation, TPRC, the Internet Education Foundation, the Family Online Safety Institute, and the board of advisers of the Minority Media & Telecommunications Council, among others. He has been recognized with the Donald McGannon Award from the United Church of Christ OC, Inc. for promoting opportunities for women and minorities in communications, and is a member of the Hall of Fame of the Minority Media & Telecommunications Council. In 2002, he received the cable industry's highest honor, the Vanguard Award, for his work in government and community relations.
